Lorca is located in the south of the Murcia region, close to the border with Andalusia. The city with 100,000 inhabitants and a pleasant climate, is located on both sides of the Río Guadalantín, in a fertile valley. The coast of the Costa Calida is about 35 km from the city; the capital Murcia is 70 km northeast
Lorca is home to an intriguing castle and an impressive Plaza España. The city was declared a Historic Artistic Complex in 1984 and is known as "Baroque City" because of its numerous Baroque monuments in the historic center.
The city has been home to Romans, Visigoths and Moors. In 1244 the city was conquered by Alfonso the Wise from the Moors.
The city center has several cozy streets with restaurants and tapas bars. It is a lovely strolling city with a lot of history. Lorca also has a modern shopping center Parque Almenara where you can find a mix of nice boutiques and large chain stores such as Zara, Sprinter, Carrefour and much more.
