The former fishing village of Santiago de la Ribera is a town on the coast of the Mar Menor. The atmosphere of that time still hangs in the old streets. The very beautiful pedestrian promenade that is surrounded by palm trees and 2 kilometers of beautiful sandy beaches catches the eye. On the Mar Menor you can enjoy a range of sporting activities, including seasonal water sports. Every Wednesday there is a large market in the center. You can take boat trips on the Mar Menor or take the ferry to La Manga Strip. You can go shopping in San Javier, for example in the indoor shopping center 'Dos Mares'. In July there are two important celebrations: fiesta Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors and the San Javier International Jazz Festival.
