Well-known cinema films films shot in Spain.
Spain has become very popular with filmmakers from all over the world in recent years. Not only Hollywood manages to find Spain as a film country, but also producers of television series such as The Game of Thrones, who are shooting in Spain for the third consecutive year this year, have also chosen Spain for recordings. The Spanish film locations are often not, barely or very briefly visible on the big screen or on television, but if you look closely you will undoubtedly recognize something.
The international film industry managed to find Spain in the sixties, the years of the so-called Spaghetti Westerns, which were mostly Italian-oriented. These were shot in the Taberna desert and surroundings of Almería, which the film park is still a witness to. Almería is also probably the province where the most films are shot with more than 500 national and international productions, some very large and well-known.
1 The Good The Bad and The Ugly and Dollars Trilogy (1964)
This Spaghetti Western starring Clint Eastwood was shot by Sergio Leone in the Taberna desert in Almería and partly in Burgos, Castilla y León. It was not the first film that the Italian director Sergio Leone shot in Spain, because the other films from the triptych “Dollars Triology” A fistful of dollars and For a few dollars more were also partly shot in Tabernas. Sergio Leone shot more films in Spain such as Once Upon a Time in the West with Charles Bronson and My Name is Nobody with Henry Fonda and Terence Hill.
2 Doctor Zhivago (1965)
The cinema film Doctor Zhivago won five Oscars and was shot almost entirely in Spain. Madrid was transformed into Moscow where it was not possible to just make recordings in the sixties. The snowy outdoor shots were made in Soria, Salamanca and Segovia, among others.
3 Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade (1989)
For part three of the Indiana Jones films, Steven Spielberg has chosen to shoot in Almería where he made some famous shots in the Tabernas desert, on the beach Playa de Monsul but also in the city of Almería itself. Harrison Ford and Sean Connery were present at these recordings, which caused a lot of international attention.
4 Mission Impossible II (2000)
The second part of the Mission Impossible films with actor Tom Cruise in the lead role was partly shot in Seville. Here the actor can be seen at a flamenco performance, chases and walking the streets in the old part of the city. Incidentally, Tom Cruise returned to Seville and Cádiz in 2010 to co-star with Cameron Diaz in the action movie Knight & Day. Stereotype moments such as the running of the bulls were imitated, but not in Pamplona but in Cádiz, so not entirely correct.
5 Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002)
George Lucas went with his whole team to Seville for shooting at, among other places, the Plaza de España, which in the film served as Theed, capital of Naboo. It's only a short shot and the famous square in Seville won't be visible for that long, but the fact that people have shot this fantastic place is already a great honor, especially because it's about Star Wars.
6 Kingdom of Heaven (2005)
In 2005 the film Kingdom of Heaven by Ridley Scott was presented, which was partly shot in Spain. Scott chose the famous Loarre Castle in Huesca (Aragón) and the cities of Ávila, Segovia and Córdoba as locations. It seems that Ridley Scott is a fan of Spain because he already shot his film 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992) in Salamanca and the Alcazar in Seville, among others, which is also logical because this is about the story of Columbus.
7 Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
The recordings for already the sixth part of the Fast & Furious films were made on the Canary Island of Tenerife. In one of the first recordings, a roof terrace can be seen on the island and later chases also take place in which Vin Diesel and the then still living Paul Walker did their chases over almost new highways, causing a lot of damage, including blowing up a bridge.
8 Taken 3 (2014)
The shooting of this third part of the tasks series was partly shot in Spain, Murcia. The airport in San Javier has been used. There are also chase scenes through the mountains from Puerto de Mazarron towards Cartagena.
