COLUMN: The power of Murcia City
I walk through the cozy streets of the old town of Murcia. I get the feeling that tourism has yet to be invented here.
The sun shines beautifully on the Rio de Segura, I enjoy the people quietly passing by. The palm trees sway majestically, small boats bob in the river.
Tourists are not there, or have never been here.
And again there is that image that Murcia city is a place in itself. I continue walking and out of the corner of my eye I see the cathedral appear in all its glory. The huge square is bustling with conviviality and there is a diversity of bars and restaurants.
The Spanish clock in my stomach decides it's dinner time. I'm spoiled for choice. I look for a spot at a small terrace. The sweet old waiter recommends estofado de costillas to me. Fine, so it will be a real Murcian delicacy potato soup with small spare ribs.
