Mazarrón – The almond blossom can be seen in many places in Spain, especially along the Mediterranean coast and in the interior of Murcia. In some places, the almond trees have been in bloom for weeks, while that should actually start at the beginning or mid-February. However, the sunny and warm weather during the holidays has ensured that the blossoming process has started earlier in many places.
Many almond trees (almendros) can be found in Spain. According to figures from the end of 2020, the country has almond trees on 660,000 hectares (the size of the autonomous region of La Rioja). That is not so surprising since Spain is the third largest almond producer in the world behind the United States and Australia.
Before an almond tree blooms, it needs a temperature of around 7 degrees between 500 and 700 hours. In addition, not all types of almond trees bloom at the same time.
